Some reading and writing standards are covered by the use of Dr. Suess. Geography standards are covered by desert themes and civics standards are addressed by the display of community and classroom helpers. Primary Use: Teacher site for lots of theme and song information. Brief Description: This is a teacher resource site for mainly preschool and kindergarten classrooms. It contains downloadable materials for center and theme set-ups. It has some interactive games for the students to play. There are many theme songs and recipes to use and print as needed. This site is colorful and engaging. The pop-up buttons are easy to read and are appropriate. The clip art compliment the site. The teacher submitted ideas enhance the whole site and provide useful information. Comments: Awesome resource for many themes. Great for creating alphabet worksheets if needed. Sponsor: ABC Teach Grade: Pre-Grade 2 Content: Life science, geometry, reading Standards: Life science standards are covered by describing various forms of information left by prehistoric animals and by exploring their habitats. Statistics are covered by the use of sorting objects, making surveys and reading and making graphs. Reading standards are addressed by comparing fantasy versus reality, reading words and by making words. Primary Use: Learning about dinosaurs. Brief Description: This site contains fantastic facts about many types of dinosaurs. It would be an excellent site for research. Poems can be created, different dinosaur shapes can be compared. Surveys can be made and completed by the class. The students can make surveys, graphs, and word scrambles. They can learn dinosaur songs and make dinosaur recipes. Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington are covered. Primary Use: Identification of historical people. Brief Description: This is a neat site for the young student. It is a nice reference for linkage to the actual white house. It enables the students to see what the white house looks like, to look at previous historical figures and to research information on known presidents. Some neat features of this site include historical moments of history, kids in the white house and pets in the white house. Comments: This site ties in well with historical themes. http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/index.html Title: The Betsy Ross home page Sponsor: US History.org, Independence Hall Association Grade: K-1 Content: History standards, historical accounts Standards: This site covers the history standard documenting the account of Betsy Rosss life. Civics standard covering the national flag. Primary Use: To describe the life and importance of Betsy Ross. To give a history of the National flag. Brief Description: This site is wonderful when studying Betsy Ross. Often the information found in traditional sources lends itself to being boring, but the interactiveness of the internet allows this site to become more than just a resource for information. Specific pictures allow for more exploration of her life. This is a good place to look when studying the making of the first flag and the events in Betsys life that led up to her being asked to sew. Comments: The virtual tour of Betsys house is really neat. This has a nice picture of Betsy Ross and a lot of text about the red, white and blue. Title: The Zoological Society of San Diego Sponsor: 2001 Zoological Society of San Diego Grade: all Content: Life science Standards: This site covers sorting living from non-living organisms. It addresses the basic needs of living organisms. It allows for the comparison of size, shape and structure of living things. It helps describe the life needs of animals, which helps in the classifying according to characteristics. Primary Use: Resource site for animals. Brief Description: This is a site showing various animals especially baby animals. It is almost like being there. This site includes a photo trek and a kid territory section. Both of these sections allow for the students to view many different kinds of animals in which to compare and enjoy. One section includes animal profiles and submit able refrigerator art and games. Comments: Easy site with easy to remember address. |
